A level examinations and resit opportunities

We understand that students’ learning was disrupted due to Covid, particularly in 2020 and 2021.

If you are resitting A levels in 2024 and were awarded AS/A level grades in 2020 or 2021 you may be eligible to receive an A level grade based only on A2 units in 2024.

You will be eligible to receive an A level grade based only on A2 units in 2024 if:

You were awarded an AS qualification in the same specification in summer 2020 or summer 2021 and will be sitting your A levels in summer 2024, OR
You were awarded an A level qualification in the same specification in summer 2020 or summer 2021 and wish to resit in summer 2024, OR
You were awarded an AS or A level qualification in the same specification in summer 2020 or summer 2021 and have then been awarded an A level qualification based solely on A2 units in summer 2022 or summer 2023 and wish to resit in summer 2024.

If you are resitting in summer 2024, please talk to staff at your school or college to ensure that you are covering the correct units. The above guidance is subject to the resit rules outlined in our Guide to Resits.
