Commenting on this exciting development, Sara Davies, Head of Skills and Pathways, said: “Our Personal Project qualifications sit at the heart of our skills-based offer, enabling learners to develop the knowledge and capabilities they need for their future pathways. Building on the proven success of the Individual Project within the current Skills Challenge Certificate, these new qualifications represent a natural and exciting evolution. |
Developed in close collaboration with teachers and wider stakeholders, they are designed to ensure a smooth transition for centres, supported by the same experienced WJEC team. The innovative design of our Level 1 and Level 2 Personal Project qualifications ensures that a learner’s level and grade are determined solely by the quality of their work, rather than by entry decisions, allowing every learner’s full potential to be recognised.
Our Skills for Life and Skills for Work qualifications have been designed to recognise and celebrate the strengths of every learner. They provide flexible and meaningful pathways that build confidence and independence, while equipping learners with the essential skills they need for life beyond school.”
Our draft specifications, designed to meet Qualifications Wales’ Approval Criteria, are available to view on the subject page:
- Entry Level
- Level 1
- Level 2
We have also published sample units for our Skills for Life and Skills for Work qualifications. These three units, delivered alongside the Personal Project qualification, can provide a natural and coherent replacement for the Skills Challenge Certificate. We will be developing clear guidance and support materials to assist centres that wish to adopt this approach.
Skills for Life and Skills for Work

- Democracy in action
- Enterprise venture
Please note, due to regulatory constraints, we cannot publish the final, approved specifications until September.
