About the General Foundation Qualification in Humanities

This qualification provides an opportunity for centres to deliver a qualification spanning Entry Level and Level 1 and including a range of humanities subjects.

Learners will be able to tailor their course by selecting two subject specific units from the five humanities:

- Business
- Geography
- History
- Religious Studies
- Social Studies

Learners will also complete a unit that brings all five subjects together through the highly relevant lens of Environmental Sustainability.

Who is this qualification for?

This qualification is for learners between 14-16 who are working at Entry Level/Level 1 in this subject.

It will build on the conceptual understanding learners have developed through their Curriculum for Wales learning from ages 3-14.

It also relates to and supports the four purposes and the principles of progression. The qualification will provide a broad basis for progression onto all five corresponding Humanities GCSEs by focussing on similar topics, skills and understanding in each unit.
