WJEC's Level 3 Extended Certificate in Travel and Tourism Approved by Qualifications Wales

We are delighted to announce that our Level 3 Extended Certificate in Travel and Tourism has been approved by Qualifications Wales for first teaching from September 2027.

The approval marks an important milestone for WJEC, completing our full suite of Travel and Tourism qualifications for Wales and providing learners with a clear progression pathway from Entry Level 1 through to Level 3.

Commenting on the approval, Emma Vincent, Subject Officer for Travel and Tourism, said:

"We are incredibly proud to see the final qualification in our suite of Travel and Tourism qualifications in Wales formally approved by Qualifications Wales. The Level 3 Extended Certificate in Travel and Tourism has been designed to complement our Entry Level/Level 1 and VCSE qualifications, providing learners with a clear progression route. We are proud to be the only awarding organisation in Wales to offer progression through a complete suite of Travel and Tourism qualifications from Entry Level 1 to Level 3."

This latest approval further strengthens WJEC's position as Wales' leading awarding body, delivering high-quality, bilingual qualifications that meet the needs of learners, educators and employers. Drawing on more than 75 years of experience, we continue to play a leading role in developing qualifications that support an inclusive, ambitious and future-focused education system for Wales.

Developed with the industry, for the industry

Our Level 3 qualification has been developed in close collaboration with travel and tourism experts across Wales to ensure learners develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours required by today's industry.

Working in partnership with Visit Wales, WJEC has developed two specialist units:

  • Unit 2 – Wales as a Destination
  • Unit 6 – Digital Marketing for Tourism and Events

These units ensure that learners develop an understanding of Wales' unique tourism offer while gaining the digital and promotional skills increasingly required across the sector. Together, they reflect current industry practice and support the development of a skilled workforce that will contribute to the future growth of the Welsh economy.

Supporting learner progression

The Level 3 Extended Certificate forms part of WJEC's comprehensive Travel and Tourism offer, creating a clear progression pathway from Entry Level/Level 1, through the VCSE in Travel and Tourism, to Level 3.

The qualification combines a strong foundation of core knowledge with a choice of optional units, enabling centres to tailor delivery to learners' interests and the needs of local employers.
