WJEC's AS and A level in Cymraeg Language and Literature, and in Core Cymraeg Approved by Qualifications Wales
We are delighted to announce that our new AS and A levels in Cymraeg Language and Literature, and in Core Cymraeg have been approved by Qualifications Wales for first teaching from September 2027.

Commenting on this exciting development, Delyth Jones, Assistant Director of Qualification Development, said: "These qualifications represent an important milestone, and I’m delighted that we are now able to share them. Shaped by the views of teachers, learners and stakeholders throughout their development, they are engaging, relevant and robust qualifications that build on the foundations of the reformed GCSEs, while supporting progression to higher education and helping learners become confident and skilled users of Cymraeg.” |

Additional support and guidance
To support the delivery of these qualifications, we will be publishing Sample Assessment Material in December 2026 and Guidance for Teaching in January 2027.
In addition, we are working alongside Adnodd to produce a comprehensive suite of free digital resources, that can be tailored to the needs of your classroom. This will be further complemented with a programme of Professional Learning, starting with briefing sessions on the new specifications in November 2026.
