WJEC’s Personal Project Qualifications – First Approved by Qualifications Wales
WJEC continues to lead the way in qualification reform to support the Curriculum for Wales, becoming the first awarding body to have its Entry Level, Level 1 and Level 2 Personal Project qualifications approved as part of Wave 3 of the National 14–16 qualifications by Qualifications Wales.

“Our Personal Project qualifications form a core element of our skills-based offer, empowering learners to develop the skills they need for their future pathways. As the first awarding body to secure approval for these qualifications, we are proud to demonstrate our leadership in designing and delivering high-quality qualifications that support meaningful and sustained progression. |
Building on the success of the Individual Project within the current Skills Challenge Certificate, these new qualifications represent a natural evolution. We have collaborated closely with teachers and wider stakeholders to ensure a smooth transition for centres, supported by the same experienced WJEC team who will continue to provide guidance and expertise. This support will be strengthened through a comprehensive package of tailored, free professional learning and high‑quality digital resources.”
A natural replacement
The Personal Project qualifications have been designed as a natural replacement for the Individual Project component of the current National/Foundation Skills Challenge Certificate. Our teams will work closely with centres to support the transition and integration of these qualifications into their curriculum planning.
We are also developing a suite of Skills for Life and Work qualifications to complement the Personal Project offer. Further information will be published in due course.
Designed with learners in mind
Grounded in the Curriculum for Wales, the Personal Project qualifications empower learners to undertake meaningful, self-directed study. They are inclusive by design, spanning Entry Level 1 through to Level 2, and enable learners of all abilities to explore topics that matter to them.
Our Made-for-Wales national qualifications form part of the third Wave of qualification reform in Wales, including VCSEs, Foundation, Personal Project, and Skills for Work and Life qualifications. To learn more, visit: www.wjec.co.uk/Wave3
