WJEC awarded contract to develop new Advanced Skills Baccalaureate Wales

We are pleased to announce that following an extensive tendering process by Qualifications Wales, we have been awarded the contract to develop, deliver and award the new Advanced Skills Baccalaureate Wales (Level 3).

Commenting on this significant achievement Ian Morgan, WJEC Chief Executive said: "On behalf of WJEC, I am honoured that we have been awarded the contract to deliver the new Advanced Skills Baccalaureate Wales. This achievement reflects our strong knowledge base, extensive experience and broad expertise in the development, delivery and awarding of qualifications.

'As the leading provider for general and vocational qualifications in Wales, this contract confirms our central role within the education landscape - and will enable us to develop and deliver a new, innovative and dynamic qualification for learners in Wales.

'We are proud of our long-term involvement with the Welsh Baccalaureate, and I am confident that we can build upon our existing good work to deliver a sector leading qualification which will become an integral part of the new curriculum for Wales."

The new qualification will be available to centres for first teaching from September 2023, and will be first certificated in summer 2025. This new qualification will replace the current Advanced Skills Challenge Certificate following the 'Skilled for the Future' consultation delivered by Qualifications Wales in autumn 2020.

The Advanced Skills Baccalaureate Wales (Level 3) will focus on preparation for employment, lifelong learning and active citizenship. As part of their studies, learners will be encouraged to explore areas of personal interest which are linked to their future studies and careers.

Our teams will now begin the preparatory work to develop this new qualification. The team will work alongside Qualifications Wales and a range of key stakeholders, including employers and higher education institutions, to produce an engaging and dynamic qualification which will equip learners with an array of skills that will enable them to flourish in a global market.
