Wave 2 Made-for-Wales qualifications - Professional Learning schedule now live!
Following the successful delivery of our inaugural Pan Wales Professional Learning roadshow for Wave 1 qualifications, we are delighted to announce that our Professional Learning programme for Wave 2 Made-for-Wales qualifications is now live. Our first roadshow reached 6,500 education professionals across 170 events, with 75% of attendees reporting 'good' or 'extremely good' understanding of the Wave 1 Made-for-Wales qualifications.
Building on success of our previous Professional Learning, we're preparing to deliver nationwide courses by our trained specification experts for the Wave 2 qualifications, where teaching will begin from September 2026.
Nia Jones, Professional Learning Manager said: “We are proud to offer a bespoke, comprehensive package of online and face-to-face professional learning opportunities again next academic year, this time enabling teachers of the Wave 2 qualifications to deliver with confidence.”
To view the schedule and to book your place on the online, new specification briefing events (registration open in summer term 2025), please visit your new qualification page and click on the training tab.
Online and face-to-face course
Our courses feature a mixture of online asynchronous, live and face-to-face training, and will be delivered over the next 18 months:
Autumn 2025 | Asynchronous material introducing each newly published specification and key information for parents/carers and learners, followed by live, online Q&A events. |
Spring 2026 | Pan Wales Roadshows: “Preparing to Teach” face-to-face events. |
Summer 2026 | A series of Exam Walk-Through and NEA Walk-Through materials to support preparation for assessments. |
Pan Wales Roadshows
We are continuing to work with Welsh Government, Local Authorities, Regional Consortia and CYDAG (Welsh medium) to facilitate teachers’ access to our “Preparing to Teach” series of face-to-face events. Head teachers across Wales, in partnership with their Local Authority, have agreed to INSET closure days so that as many subject teachers as possible may attend these events. This Pan Wales plan will see schools within clusters of Local Authorities and CYDAG affiliated schools close for INSET delivered by WJEC on a designated day between February and March 2026. Working together, we will deliver up to10 Professional Learning events at school venues on each INSET closure day across Wales.
Your cluster INSET dates can be seen here: Made-for-Wales GCSEs - Professional Learning and details of how you/your school can register will follow in summer term.

Meanwhile, for teachers of Wave 1 qualifications, all this year’s Professional Learning materials can be found on our Portal website and recordings of the New Specification Briefings, alongside specification walk-through modules, can be found under the Training, On demand tab of your new qualification page. Further, live online Preparing to Assess events are scheduled throughout autumn, spring and into the 2026/27 academic year to support marking of all internally assessed units.
