Update: Qualifications Wales announces GCSE science update

Qualifications Wales has announced a further consultation on the future range of science GCSEs (including biology, chemistry and physics).

As a result of this announcement, our current GCSEs in biology, chemistry and physics will continue to be available pending the outcome of the consultation in autumn 2028.

Please note, this will not impact the delivery of our new Made-for-Wales GCSE science qualifications: The Sciences (Double Award) and Integrated Science (Single Award), which will be available for teaching from September 2026.

Next steps

Following discussions with Qualifications Wales, we are currently considering what amendments, if any, should be made to our existing GCSEs in biology, chemistry and physics.  We will open a survey on 30 September to gather feedback from stakeholders to support inform our decision.

Further information on this will be issued in due course, please ensure you are subscribed to our mailing list to receive the latest information.
