Opening greener pathways to the future: Sustainability in Practice now eligible for funding

We are delighted to announce that our Level 2 Sustainability in Practice – Future Changemakers qualification is now eligible for funding through the Welsh Government’s Personal Learning Accounts (PLA). This important milestone will help open greener pathways for learners and employees across Wales, supporting the development of vital sustainability skills for the future.

Laura Callaghan, Subject Officer for our Sustainability suite, said:

“As the first awarding body to develop a dedicated suite of Sustainability qualifications, we are thrilled that Sustainability in Practice – Future Changemakers is now eligible for funding. This development will enable more learners and employees across Wales to access the qualification and make a positive, meaningful impact within their workplaces and local communities.

Sustainability is a global challenge, and one that requires shared responsibility. This qualification equips learners with both the theoretical understanding and practical skills needed to address sustainability issues and apply these principles in real-world settings. By removing financial barriers, we are confident this funding will help drive positive and lasting change.”

Commenting on the funding opportunity is Derek Walker, Future Generations Commissioner for Wales:

"We can all play our part in the Cymru we want to live in today and protect for the children of tomorrow. I welcome that the Sustainability in Practice - Future Changemakers qualification is available for more people through the Green Personal Learning Accounts. This qualification reflects the spirit of the Well-being of Future Generations Act, helping people of all ages gain the skills and motivation to act for a prosperous, resilient and more equal Wales. Personal Learning Account funding is so significant because it widens participation, breaks down barriers and makes sustainability learning accessible to more people than ever, reinforcing that building a better future is everyone’s responsibility.”

Wyn Prichard, Senior Sustainability Consultant, who worked closely with WJEC in the development of the Sustainability suite added:

“It’s extremely exciting that the WJEC qualification, is now being supported and funded by the Welsh Government’s PLA programme. The need, not just for knowledge but an acknowledged qualification, will now be able to drive the Welsh Government’s and Future Generation aims, thorough a recognised learning pathway.”
