New Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care for teaching from September 2023

We are pleased to announce that we will be developing a new Level 3 Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care: Principles and Contexts which will be available to centres and learners in Wales from September 2023. This includes learners who have previously completed the Certificate or Diploma in Health and Social Care: Principles and Contexts or are due to complete in summer 2023.

Aimed at post-16 learners in full-time education, the new qualification will be developed in collaboration with further education practitioners and will:

• build on the existing Level 3 Certificate and Diploma in Health and Social Care: Principles and Contexts
• provide a two-year programme of study equivalent in size to three GCE A Levels
• support learners to enter higher education by being recognised and accepted by universities across the UK
• offer innovative, practical, and up-to-date assessment approaches.

We will be holding a series of scoping meetings later this month. Primarily aimed at FE practitioners, these meetings will provide an opportunity to inform content and approaches to assessment.
