Meet Emma Vincent, your Regional Support Team Leader

Our new Skills Suite and Personal Project qualifications will be ready for first teaching in September 2027.

Meet the team that will be here to support you every step of the way in delivering these exciting new qualifications:

Can you tell us a little about your role and background?

“For over 17 years, I worked in a large Further Education college, using my experience within the tourism and business sectors to deliver and manage a range of vocational curriculum. During that time, I held several roles including Assistant Director of Faculty, Curriculum Team Leader, and Welsh Baccalaureate Coordinator.

I joined WJEC as a Regional Support Officer in 2011, and the role has since evolved to allow me to specialise in supporting further education colleges across Wales. I now lead a team of colleagues who support schools within Wales, bringing together a wealth of knowledge and experience from across the education sector.”

What does your role involve?

“The purpose of our team is to support centres in Wales offering a skills-based curriculum. We provide advice and guidance to ensure that learners’ experience of developing skills is exceptional.
Although colleges can be very large institutions, I’m passionate about ensuring that every learner has a positive experience. This is achieved by supporting coordinators in delivering our qualifications.”

What does a typical day look like?

“Communication forms the basis of a typical day. This can involve working with coordinators or senior managers in centres requesting advice and guidance about qualifications, collaborating with external stakeholders, or supporting WJEC colleagues with resource development and delivery at Professional Learning events.”

What can you tell us about the new qualifications you support?

“The Skills Suite is an exciting new qualification that offers a wide range of units, each targeting the development of skills learners need for their future. The units are designed to be taken alongside the Personal Project, as well as our new Foundation qualifications, GCSEs, and VCSEs.

For centres currently delivering the Skills Challenge Certificate, the Skills Suite and Personal Project will be a natural replacement, with the Regional Support Team on hand to advise and support them.”

What do you enjoy most about working at WJEC?

“Working for WJEC provides me with the opportunity to contribute to new developments and to support centres as they introduce exciting curriculum.”
