From railways to radar, microphones to equal signs, Wales is the home to some truly inspirational ideas that have revolutionised the world.

Innovations Awards 2019

The Innovations Awards celebrates the most forward-thinking GCSE, AS and A level project work from students studying our Design and Technology courses.

The exhibition will begin in Cardiff’s SSE SWALEC stadium on 30th September – 1st October, before being showcased in Bangor University on 4th October – 15th October.

Steve Howells, Subject Officer for Design and Technology at WJEC: “We teamed up with the Welsh Government’s Department of Economy, Science and Transport in 1998 to celebrate the best in Welsh design and have hosted the event ever since.

The awards aim to encourage young people to think outside of the box and become more technologically innovative. It’s also a great way to showcase the talent and level of work put into studying these subjects at GCSE, AS and A level."

What to expect

In addition to the awards, and the exhibition, there will also be a variety of free talks and seminars available for students and teachers, including designing sustainable products, intellectual property and managing the (controlled assessed tasks) CAT in your school.

This is also a great opportunity to meet industry professionals, and representatives from higher education establishments – who are on the hunt for new talent!
