Summer 2021: Changes to assessments

Latest News: Arrangements for candidates completing GCSEs and A levels in Summer 2021

In response to the temporary closure of schools and colleges in March 2020, the Welsh Government and Qualifications Wales announced that qualifications will be adapted for assessment in 2021, in order to mitigate lost teaching and learning time and to assist schools and colleges in complying with social distancing guidelines.

Qualifications Wales has set out clear principles which we have followed in making adaptations to qualifications for 2021. You can find out more about Qualifications Wales’ requirements here.

As part of the process, teachers from across Wales have also been consulted and their feedback has been incorporated wherever possible, whilst ensuring that we maintain the validity of our qualifications for all our learners. For teachers delivering Vocational Qualifications, there has also been an additional consultation exercise undertaken by Ofqual – further information on the outcomes will be shared in due course.

We are confident that the adaptations we have made to our qualifications provide the fairest possible solution for learners in Wales in these exceptional circumstances.
