January / Summer 2022: Summary of information

January 2022 exams

As a reminder, Qualifications Wales has confirmed that if learners are unable to sit their exams this January, they will have the opportunity to sit them in the summer. It’s also important to note JCQ’s Special Consideration provision for the January exams – you can download the latest JCQ notice here.

Learners wanting to find out more can also access a range of useful FAQs on Qualifications Wales website here.

Please note that that WJEC’s January Newsletter has also been sent to all centres and includes useful information on conducting the January exams.

Summer 2022 - adaptations

The Minister for Education, Jeremy Miles MS,  has confirmed that GCSE and AS/A level exams will take place as planned during the summer, though with adaptations to take account of lost teaching and learning time. Information on the adaptations are available in our adaptations booklets and on individual qualification pages.

Although Advance Information was released in September for some qualifications, we will be releasing Advance Information for a small number of WJEC GCSEs, AS and A levels on our website by the 7th February. Learners can use the information to help focus their revision – the full subject list and further details on the purpose and function of Advance Information can be downloaded here.

Advance Information for our Vocational Qualifications will be released in April 2022. Information on which subjects and examinations will include Advance Information can be found in our VQ adaptations booklet which can be downloaded here.

Revision support for learners

There’s an extensive range of learning materials and resources available to help learners prepare for their assessments including Exam Walk Throughs, Knowledge Organisers, and Blended Learning Modules. Learners can download all of these, as well as useful revision tips, from our website here.

Summer 2022: Contingency arrangements (GCSEs and AS/A levels)

Qualifications Wales has published its guidance on contingency arrangements, should exams not be possible, for summer 2022. You can download the Qualifications Wales guidance here. You can also access Qualifications Assessment Frameworks from the subject pages on our public website here.

Our teams continue to be on-hand to provide schools and colleges with support and guidance, and we look forward to working with you during the weeks ahead.
