Additional assessment opportunities for WJEC vocational and other general qualifications in 2020/21

Additional assessment opportunities for WJEC vocational and other general qualifications in 2020/21

Following the cancellation of examinations and assessments in Summer 2020, and in line with the requirements of the Extraordinary Regulatory Framework, we have taken a decision to make an additional assessment opportunity available in the 2020-2021 academic year for the following qualification types:

  • Entry Level Certificates
  • Level 1/2 Vocational Awards
  • Level 3 Applied Certificates and Diplomas
  • Level 3 Extended Project Qualification

The primary purpose of the additional assessment opportunity is to provide an opportunity for candidates who were unable to be awarded an outcome this summer or who are unhappy with the outcome achieved, to sit the examinations and assessments prior to the next summer series. However, we have also taken a decision not to restrict entry to these qualifications to only those candidates entered this summer. Therefore, where an additional assessment opportunity is made available, it will also be available to candidates who have not previously been entered but who will be ready for assessment by the time it takes place.

The additional assessment opportunities will take place in the following months:

  • Entry Level Certificates – January 2021
  • Level 1/2 Vocational Awards* – January 2021
  • Level 3 Applied Certificates and Diplomas – October/November 2020
  • Level 3 Extended Project Qualification – October/November 2020

* Please note, there will be no January opportunity for Unit 1 of the Level 1/2 Vocational Award in Creative and Media due to the usual scheduled examination taking place in March 2021.

Details of the specific qualifications and units available in the October/November can be found in the timetable for examinations and assessments published here. The deadline for entering candidates for assessment in this series is Friday 4th September.

Details of the specific qualifications and units available in January 2021 will be published here in early September. Centres will be contacted in early Autumn and asked to provide information on their intentions to enter. This will assist us to plan and manage the assessment series.

Centres should note, should no entries be received for an assessment, the assessment will be withdrawn from the timetable.
