WJEC's Functional Skills qualifications accredited in English, Mathematics and ICT at all levels
WJEC has had its Functional Skills qualifications in English, Mathematics and ICT accredited at all levels for teaching in England from September 2010.
Functional skills are the core elements of English, Mathematics and ICT that provide individuals with the essential knowledge, skills and understanding enabling them to operate confidently, effectively and independently in life and at work.
Students following Apprenticeship, Diploma or Foundation Learning pathways will need to take Functional Skills assessments as a compulsory part of their qualification. In addition, the revised National Curriculum Orders for Key Stage 3 and the new specification GCSEs in English, Mathematics and ICT have embedded in them the Functional Skills standards.
WJEC has been a leading voice in the development of the Functional Skills qualifications and regulatory requirements throughout the three-year pilot. As a result, there are few changes to the assessment models very successfully piloted in schools and colleges in England.
