News

  • The November 2016 Principal Examiners' Reports for GCSE English Language, providing feedback on the November 2016 series of examinations, is now available. Centres are advised to read the report carefully as it provides helpful observations and commentary on the work produced for this series and can assist teachers in preparing their students for last re-sit opportunity.
  • The Autumn Newsletter is now available for GCSE English Language. This edition includes what's new, resources, teacher training and frequently asked questions.
  • The Task 2: Responding and Interacting stimulus material for Unit 1: Oracy is now available on our secure website. There is a guidelines document for non-examination assessment and a record keeping mark sheet located alongside the stimulus material.
  • Centres are advised to read the guidelines document carefully. Further details on administrative procedures for the sampling process will be released closer to the submission date deadline.

CPD Autumn 2016

Book your space now at one of our Autumn 2016 CPD events. This full day course is designed for practitioners teaching the reformed WJEC GCSE English Language specification. Each session will review the progress of teaching so far, share good practice and consider approaches in the teaching and learning of key elements of the specification moving forward, using new resources available. Locations include Treforest, Newport, Llandrindod Wells, Mold, Bangor, Camarthen and Swansea.

  • The Summer 2016 Principal Examiners' Reports for GCSE English Language (Wales), providing feedback on the Summer 2016 series of examinations, is now available. Centres are advised to read the report carefully as it provides helpful observations and commentary on the work produced for this series and can assist teachers in preparing their students for either of the two re-sit opportunities.
  • There will be two re-sit opportunities for the legacy specification in November 2016 and June 2017. The 40% terminal assessment rule applies as normal, allowing the results for one or two units to be carried forward from a previous series.
  • Where new written controlled assessment is to be entered, the tasks must be selected from the June 2016 booklet, which is stored on the secure website.

24 March Summer 2017 Series: Deadline for submission of Written Controlled Assessment to moderators (mainstream)
5 May Summer 2017 Series: Deadline for submission of Written Controlled Assessment to moderators (other centres)
