About this Qualification
This qualification is designed to complement Essential Skills Wales. There are five units worth three credits each available, and candidates will be able to achieve an Award or Certificate at Entry 2 or Entry 3. It is recommended that Entry 1 candidates follow the Essential Skills Wales - Communication course.
The units are listed below:
- Oral Discussion of Experiences and Feelings
- Translanguaging to Welsh
- Oral Response to a Welsh Television Programme or Film
- Responding to Welsh Literary Reading Material (Prose)
- Story Writing
These units are internally assessed and externally moderated.

Samples of Work
Samples of work should be submitted to:

From January 2015, centres are now requested to submit their Entry Pathways candidate data via the WJEC Internal Assessment Mark Input System (IAMIS). The IAMIS window will open for you to check candidate data, input the outcome, and generate your moderation sample . Centres will NOT be receiving EP1 forms. Moderator details can be located at the top of the IAMIS, once you have clicked to generate your sample.
