Entry Pathways

We would like to remind centres that WJEC provides, and will continue to provide, qualifications which meet the needs of teachers and the requirements of regulators in both England and Wales.

News

EP Qualifications no longer carry performance points in England. For information relating to performance points in Wales please see https://www.qiw.wales/.

WJEC will continue to provide Entry Pathways qualification at all levels as centres have shown that the demand is there for a rigorous and pertinent assessment for the range of learners following these courses.

Entry Level Current Specification Extension

WJEC has retained the following Entry Level qualifications in line with the National Curriculum in England and prior to the results of the Qualification review in Wales.

Please keep an eye on the Entry Pathways web pages for further updates or see our Frequently Asked Questions page.

New Entry Level Units and Qualifications

Entry Level qualifications have been revised to provide a more flexible unitised framework within the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF).

One major development is the removal of timetabled examinations, WJEC will instead supply exemplar material to give guidance to centres on assessment.  The object of Entry Pathways is for students to achieve the learning outcomes regardless of how they are assessed.

The new Entry Pathways Specification includes general regulations, administrative arrangements and a list of units and rules of combination.

Please see the subject specific webpages for further information on each subject:

Key Features of the new provision

  • Recognises completion of each unit as well as of the qualification as a whole, through the award of credit.
  • Allows units to be combined to create programmes of work suited to individual learner needs.
  • Enables assessment evidence to be produced from integrated programmes of work and at appropriate points in the course.
  • Promotes progression through Entry 1, 2 and 3 and on to Level 1.

Further details of units available for teaching from September 2011 and certification from Summer 2012 can be downloaded by clicking 'show all documents' at the right of this page.
