WJEC provides, and will continue to provide, qualifications in both England and Wales which meet the needs of teachers and the requirements of regulators in both countries.

For centres in Wales: Approved WJEC GCSE French (for teaching from 2016)

WJEC has developed a reformed GCSE French qualification, regulated by Qualifications Wales, for teaching from 2016. This qualification meets regulatory requirements in Wales and has been approved by Qualifications Wales: it is not available to centres in England.

Read the latest update on our latest resources and training to support the new GCSE, AS and A level French, German and Spanish qualifications.

For centres in England

Through our Eduqas brand, WJEC is developing a reformed GCSE French qualification, regulated by Ofqual, for first teaching from 2016. This qualification is designed to meet regulatory requirements in England. Specifications and resources can be found on the Eduqas GCSE French webpage.

Join Our Team: Become an Examiner or Moderator

We are currently recruiting examiners and moderators for GCSE, AS/A level and/or Level 1/Level 2 qualifications for next summer's examination series. If you have at least two years teaching experience and would like to apply, please create an account to complete the online application process.

For more information on becoming an examiner, including vacancies and benefits, please visit our appointees page.

Spelling reforms in French

WJEC examining teams are aware of the new spelling reforms in French and would like to reassure teachers and candidates that both the new and existing French language spelling conventions will be accepted in candidates' written work.

WJEC examining teams will use the new spelling conventions when writing the reformed GCSE, AS and A level French examinations, for first assessment in 2017 (AS) and 2018 (GCSE and A level); however, we do not expect to amend spelling in extracts from authentic sources.
