Professional Development

WJEC runs a programme of INSET professional development to support teachers in delivering courses of study leading up to WJEC examinations.  The training courses are normally facilitated by WJEC's specialist subject officers and led by Chief or Principal Examiners. 

Courses are held throughout Wales and England, in comfortable hotels or conference centres.  Some are designed to introduce new specifications and others for sharing good practice or exchanging feedback on examinations.  There is an opportunity to network, as well as receive new educational materials and ideas.

The new professional development programme for September 2008 - September 2009 is now available, including a range of free courses to introduce WJEC's new GCSE specifications for teaching from 2009 onwards.  Book now to avoid disappointment!!

There are also still places on some of our courses in the June and July 2008 programme.  

Application forms

Adobe Acrobat (PDF) and Microsoft Word versions of the application forms are available for printing and returning by mail. For courses where a fee is charged, applications should include payment.  Where an online booking is made, remittance should follow as soon as possible.

Course Charges

The charge is £105 per day, or £90 if applications are made prior to the end of term before the course (or half term in the case of Entry Level courses). 

Courses introducing new specifications or procedures are free of charge.

INSET Packs

Additional INSET information packs can be provided on request, at a cost of £10.

Closing dates for application and confirmation

The closing date for receipt of applications is five days before each course. Applications received after this date will be subject to a £10 administration fee. Delegates who arrive at a venue without a confirmation may not be accommodated on the day.

Confirmation letters containing a map of the venue are sent two weeks before the course. Individual applicants should ensure that they have confirmation before attending a course.

Cancellation

In the event of non-attendance the full fee is payable. Places may be cancelled up to 24 hours before the meeting without cost. All cancellations notified to the INSET Unit will receive a reference number as acknowledgement.

Individual courses to be held in schools or colleges

In addition to the courses outlined here, WJEC may also be able to arrange an individual event in your school or LEA if requested.  The cost of such a course will depend on the personnel, materials and other requirements.
