Mathematics & Related Subjects GCE A/AS
The WJEC GCE Mathematics specification is proving increasingly popular with centres, within both Wales and England.
The GCE specification has a six unit structure.
Thirteen different units are offered covering Pure Mathematics, Further Pure Mathematics, Mechanics and Statistics.
AS Qualifications
AS qualifications with the following titles are available as an appropriate combination of 3 units.
- Mathematics
- Further Mathematics
- Pure Mathematics
A-Level Qualifications
A-Level qualifications with the following titles are available as an appropriate combination of units.
- Mathematics
- Further Mathematics
- Pure Mathematics
Full details of the allowed combinations of units are contained in the specification.
From summer 2010, an A* will be available in A-level Mathematics, A-level Further Mathematics and A-level Pure Mathematics.
Candidates will need to obtain at least 480 UMS in total, and:
- in A-level Mathematics, a total of at least 180 UMS in C3 and C4
- in A-level Further Mathematics, a total of at least 270 UMS in the best three of M2, M3, S2, S3, FP2 and FP3 used in the award of A-level Further Mathematics
- in A-level Pure Mathematics, a total of at least 270 UMS in C4, FP1 and FP2.
