Welsh First Language GCSE
The WJEC Welsh First Language GCSE course tries to ensure that pupils are given the opportunity to:
- show interest, pleasure and enthusiasm while studying GCSE Welsh First Language
- communicate effectively correctly and fluently orally and in writing in a wide range of situations and contexts
- demonstrate the ability to contribute substantially to discussions, and consider appropriately the ideas, circumstances and role of others
- respond to a full range of reading materials – motive texts which promote interest and enthusiasm; respond orally or in writing to poetry, prose and drama; give attention to detail, to retrieve, discuss and combine information
- identify meaning beyond the literal meaning and to identify that which is implied in a text
write in a wide range of forms for a variety of purposes, giving attention to purpose, audience and accuracy.
Assessment
There are three parts to the scheme of assessment:
- Coursework (33.3%) made up of three written tasks: one creative task based on literary work, assessing reading skills and two tasks assessing writing skills, one task discussing and expressing opinion and one personal creative writing task
- An oral exam (33.3%) comprising two tasks: one group task discussing and expressing opinion and an individual task presenting information
- A written exam (33.3%) with two questions: one question assessing reading skills and one question assessing writing skills.
