Information & Communication Technology GCSE
WJEC is pleased to announce that our revised GCSE specifications in ICT for first teaching from September 2010 have been accredited by the regulators in Wales and England
WJEC has a Short Course and a Single Award with the 2 units of the short course a subset of the 4 unit single award. Our new specifications are modular and assessed by a mixture of exams (40%) and controlled assignment (60%) to give a flexible, up to date qualification which will engage learners. Text books and on-line resources will be available along with a Teachers' Guide to support delievery. Teachers have direct access to subject specialists to answer all your questions.

GCSE ICT Specification for Teaching from September 2010
GCSE SAM for Teaching from September 2010
The current WJEC GCSE ICT Full Course is assessed through an external examination consisting of two written papers and two courseworks. External assessment accounts for 40% of the marks and coursework for 60% of the marks. The coursework component consists of a Portfolio of work (30%) and a Project (30%).
There are two tiers for the Full Course, Higher A*-D and Foundation C-G.
The Short Course consists of paper One and the Portfolio coursework from the Full Course.
Support material and additional resources can be found free of charge on NGfL-Cymru. Past papers and marking schemes are available free of charge to teaching staff on our Secure Website. Further resources are available through our online Shop.
Our programme of free INSET courses starts on 30th November. Click below to access the booking form.
Uniform Marks (UMS) - Information on how raw marks are converted to uniform marks may be found in the following document - Uniform Marks.
GCSE ICT Pilot
The WJEC is currently running a pilot in Wales to explore how GCSE ICT can be strengthened to provide a better guarantee of the 'basics' through strengthening the GCSE whereas Functional Skills are being piloted in England. The assessment generally follows the existing GCSE pattern but with a Controlled Assignment rather than the Portfolio coursework.
