Film Studies Levels:

Find qualifications and resources

Welcome to Film Studies at WJEC, a popular and student-centred subject which allows students to study all aspects of film from the USA, the UK as well as from other countries. At WJEC, Film Studies has been offered at AS/A Level for some 20 years and is now offered at GCSE as well. The two courses are:

  • AS/A Level (currently 60% examination, 40% internal assessment),
  • GCSE (50% examination, 50% internal assessment) – for first teaching from September 2008.

The AS/A Level specification has proved popular with centres. Some of the reasons are:

  • clear and accessible specifications and assessment materials,
  • a high quality of Professional Development to support teachers,
  • reliable examining and moderation,
  • approachable staff.

The same features and support will underlie the new GCSE specification.

The AS/A Level specification (both current and new) and an outline of the structure of the GCSE are available to download. For further details, visit the specific page for the qualification you are interested in.

Support material and additional resources are available free of charge on NGfL Cymru. Past papers and marking schemes are available free of charge to teaching staff on our Secure Website. Further resources are available through our online Shop.
