Functional Skills for all centres in England

Functional Skills qualifications are available to all centres in England

WJEC provides, and will continue to provide, qualifications which meet the needs of teachers and the requirements of regulators in England.

The Levels 1 & 2 assessments will take the form of two one-hour examinations assessing Reading and Writing. Speaking, Listening and Communication is internally assessed. Functional Skills English (Entry Level) is externally set and moderated, and internally assessed.

News

Dates for internal assessment standardising CPD for the next academic year will be published shortly. Examination review will be provided online; further details will be issued in due course.

The Department for Education has recently revised the criteria which must be met for qualifications to attract performance points. Unfortunately, for the 2014 performance measures, FS qualifications are not of the requisite size and therefore will not count in these tables after 2013.
WJEC will continue to provide FS qualifications at all levels as centres have shown that the demand is there for a rigorous and pertinent assessment for the range of learners following these courses.

E-Assessment

WJEC are pleased to offer Functional Skills English, Reading and Writing Levels 1 and 2 as either paper-based or on-screen assessments. The on-screen option gives access to a growing bank of past papers, including a familiarisation test, allowing your centre to schedule and run these on demand.

For a demonstration test and further information, please contact e-assessment@wjec.co.uk  or call Laura Crook on 02920 265328.

Submission of Marks for Centre-Assessed Examination Components

The online system for the submission of marks and the identification of samples in centre-assessed units will be applied to Functional Skills Entry Level English and Functional Skills English levels 1&2 Speaking, Listening & Communication.

If you require further information / clarification on the online system, please contact the FS Administration Section: functionalskills@wjec.co.uk or 029 2026 5128 or see the Speaking and Listening Circular - Sampling Method.
