First Skills Entry Level
Subscribe to be kept informed of news and developments in this subject.
The WJEC Firstskills Profile is an award scheme designed to be accessible to a wide range of students including young people and adults with a wide range of learning needs for whom existing examinations and qualifications are either unrealistic or inappropriate or are at risk of losing connection with educational opportunities. It is also intended to afford every opportunity for the learner to be motivated and take some responsibility for their own learning especially those in short term placements, e.g. PRUs, secure units, training providers.
The course is flexible and based on a unit structure. It includes both life skills and vocational units. It is designed to provide for the development of a range of skills in meaningful and relevant contexts. Each unit is a stand-alone unit.
Although based in the Entry Level programme, Firstskills Profile is not on the NQF and work is accredited through the WJEC. Centres are able to offer units individually, thereby encouraging learners to accumulate their achievements and take an incremental approach to building a profile in various skills-based areas.
This qualification will still be available for cohots completing in July 2013.
