Important Information for Centres in Wales
Please note that Applied Science (level 2) and Science for Work (level 2) both count towards level 2 performance indicators in Wales but not towards CSI. More information is available on the DAQW website.
The Qualifications
Pathways Applied Science is a suite of new qualifications developed by WJEC. The qualifications are based upon the Qualification & Credit Framework (QCF) which is a way for candidates to study credit-based units which suit their individual needs and maximising use of their talents in a subject area.
The QCF sets out to create and accredit qualifications in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. It aims to be accessible to a wide range of candidates within the vocational qualifications system.
Units and qualifications based upon QCF are:
• transferable
• flexible
• quality assured
• easy to understand
• geared towards progression.
There are two Applied Science qualifications each at level 1 and level 2:
