Full details of the procedures to be followed for Access Arrangements and Special Consideration are contained in the JCQ booklet “Access Arrangements, Reasonable Adjustments and Special Consideration”. Copies of the booklet and copies of all relevant forms can be downloaded in PDF format from the JCQ website.

Access Arrangements

Some examination candidates may be entitled to certain access arrangements, to support them whilst taking examinations.

A wide range of access arrangements are available – e.g. provision of reader, scribe, extra time etc.

All applications for GCE/GCSE ‘access arrangements’ should now be processed using the online tool (Access Arrangements Online) developed by QCDA and the JCQ awarding bodies. The tool can be accessed from the WJEC secure website, or from the extranets of any of the other awarding bodies. Applications for Entry Level, Basic and Key Skills and Functional Skills should still be made using manual forms, available to download from the Access Arrangements page on the JCQ website.

Most of the applications at GCE/GCSE level should be automatically resolved by using the online tool. In cases where the application is not approved, the tool will allow the Exams Officer to refer the application to the relevant awarding bodies for separate adjudication.

The tool is highly intuitive and user friendly, but if you wish to explore how it works before you input any live data, a separate training version of the site is available.
