New professional development/INSET courses

The new WJEC professional development programme for September 2009 - September 2010 has now been announced. The comprehensive timetable of events includes a range of free courses to introduce WJEC's new core GCSE specifications (English, Mathematics, ICT, Welsh 1st Language and Welsh 2nd Language) for teaching from 2010 onwards. New Free Online Support for Teachers

To coincide with the introduction of the new GCSE specifications, for teaching from September 2009, WJEC has produced a series of brand new Teachers' Guides. [more]


Swine Flu
6 May 2009

WJEC has been working with other awarding bodies, with JCQ (Joint Council for Qualifications) and with regulators in Wales and England to ensure a co-ordinated approach to manage any disruption to the examination system arising from an escalation of problems caused by swine flu. [more]

Functional Skills - news for centres in England
6 April 2009

It was announced last week by the Minister of State for Schools and Learners that the proposed link (in the form of a hurdle) between the functional skills assessments and GCSE’s will not be implemented for the introduction of the new GCSE’s in English and Mathematics courses starting 2010. Education Show 2009

WJEC Design & Technology winner achieves top UK prizes.
11 March 2009

Following his success at the WJEC and Welsh Assembly Government Innovation Awards, Jack Henderson’s Bike Claw invention was chosen for the UK Young Technologist of the Year exhibition held at The Big Bang fair in London 4-6 March, and Jack has now been named as the winner of the BAE Systems Special Award for Technology. WJEC exam papers to be free of charge

From 1 February onwards, WJEC past papers will be free of charge. Papers dating from summer 2008 and earlier can be downloaded from the relevant subject pages. [more]


Examination entries reminder
21 January 2009

WJEC centres are reminded that the deadlines for submitting examination entries are fast approaching. GCSE entries need to be in by 21 February 2009, and GCEs by 21 March 2009. [more]
