2 July 2012

WJEC’s specialist Psychology subject officer, Elin Angharad, will be attending the Association for the Teaching of Psychology’s Annual Conference which will be held at Aston University, Birmingham on 6th - 8th July 2012.
WJEC are pleased to be sponsoring a number of breakout sessions at the Conference.

Deborah Wearing, author of “Forever Today: A Memoir of Love and Amnesia” will be speaking at two sessions on Saturday 7th July – the first at 11.45am and again at 3.00pm. Deborah’s husband Clive Wearing is the subject of psychological studies all over the world. Since 1985 he has been diagnosed as having the densest case of amnesia ever known. Deborah started a charity to support people with memory and behavioural problems and later wrote a book about life without memory but with enduring love.

WJEC are also sponsoring key note speaker Dr Faye Short of Bangor University who will explore a method of enhancing the student experience. Modern institutes are expected to raise grades yet maintain academic standards, ensure discipline yet foster a positive student experience. This talk is designed to explore one method of enhancing the student experience using the skills developed in the counselling sector. Dr Short will actively demonstrate counselling skills during the talk and explain how these skills can be used in the classroom to support learning. Dr Short’s session will take place at 10.00am on Sunday 8th July. Further information can be found on the ATP website.

WJEC will also hold workshops on Sunday 8th July at 9.00am:

Education vs Examination

In this session, John Griffin will look at how to ensure that A Level Psychology is about the overall knowledge and appreciation of the subject as well as ticking the boxes at the assessments (with a focus on WJEC A2).

Thinking of changing, or new to WJEC?

Frances Harding’s workshop will cover a brief description of the course, with ideas on how to approach AS (and A2 if required) and key points from examiners reports. There will be an opportunity for questions and discussion.
You can also visit us on our stand where you will have the opportunity to speak with WJEC’s Psychology Subject Officer Elin Angharad and purchase a copy of Deborah Wearing’s book.
