Find qualifications and resources

1 March 2012

WJEC's Educational Resources department has been on tour lately, visiting many centres in order to promote the wealth of resources which are available to support A Level and GCSE specifications.

Teacher training colleges were visited so that prospective teachers could be introduced to the help available from WJEC in the delivery of their subjects. Visits were also made to a number of schools to speak to teachers in Continuous Professional Development sessions at the school.

Presentations were given in evening sessions and a day was spent in schools so that individual departments had the opportunity to discuss the resources seen, and to get more information about them. There was also an opportunity to share ideas.

Marian Sweet, Leader of the Welsh-medium Secondary PGCE Programme, Cardiff Metropolitan University, said

“The students for Welsh as a subject were very enthusiastic about the resources shown to them. The interactive nature of the resources, and their obvious relevance to GCSE and A Level specifications appealed greatly to the students, and they were very keen to get their hands on them.”

One student studying the Science PGCE course added that it was “a worthwhile and incredibly educational session with excellent resources."

Delyth Rees from Bangor University added that “the tutors’ reactions to the presentations were very positive and that they felt the trainees had benefitted from them, especially at the beginning of their careers.”

Many centres reacted very favourably to requests to work with the WJEC Educational Resources department and hopefully, the outcome of the work will be seen in the near future.

These supporting resources are available on the website, www.wjec.co.uk and by choosing a subject and a qualification from the menu. The supporting resources are available through links from the ‘Documents’ or ‘Teacher Guidance’ sections on a particular subject’s page.
