'Passport' leads to a laptop!
24 November 2010
Paige Evans, a year 10 student at Ysgol Glyn Derw in Cardiff, has won a Samsung laptop worth £250 - kindly donated to WJEC by Royal Statistical Society Centre for Statistical Education, (RSSCSE) University of Plymouth.
Hundreds of students visited the WJEC stand at the Skills Wales event – the careers and skills show for Wales organised by the Welsh Assembly Government – held at the Millennium Stadium in September, and competed to win the laptop by completing the following activities:
• smoothie-making with fresh ingredients
• embroidery and appliqué, with a variety of textiles
• Welsh tests
Visitors to the stand received a learning "passport" with the aim of gaining stamps in each area of the activities, and had the opportunity of winning other prizes along their way!
Students from Ysgol Glyn Derw and their teacher Mrs Paula Stephens were among hundreds of visitors to WJEC's stand, Paige's name was then selected at random from the many participants who completed their "passport".
The laptop was presented to Paige by Caroline Morgan, WJEC's Welsh Baccalaureate Development Officer, at Ysgol Glyn Derw on Thursday 18 November 2010.
Congratulations to Paige on her success.
