WJEC A Level Awards – Welsh Baccalaureate Student of The Year
This year’s WJEC Welsh Baccalaureate Qualification Student of the Year is Scott Garwell of Deeside College. Scott will receive £100, plus letter and certificate to mark his achievement.
Scott’s performance as a Welsh Bac student was of an extremely high standard and he partook in many work experience placements including visits to family courts in Rhyl, Magistrates Courts in Mold, and Crown Courts in Chester. He visited Auschwitz with a fellow Welsh BAc student and on their return they presented findings of their trip to over a thousand fellow students.
“Studying at Deeside College and undertaking the Welsh Baccalaureate has been a marvellous experience” said Scott, “The qualification has been challenging but it has helped my confidence grow considerably and has given me a stronger impetus to achieve my desired goals”
Scott’s individual investigation explored binge drinking in Wales, Europe and the World and having discovered that the problem was worse in North Wales, he subsequently suggested some hypotheses and recommendations.
Scott is planning to study Law LLB at University and eventually aims to practise as a Criminal Advocate.
“I would like to thank my A-Level tutors for their constant support and encouragement. I would also like to take this opportunity to recommend the Welsh Baccalaureate Qualification without hesitation to any prospective students – it is most definitely worth it.”
Five other Welsh Bac students were highly commended.
WJEC is making awards to the winners of all 35 A level subjects, as well as to the Welsh Baccalaureate Student of the Year and the overall Student of the Year.
Subject winners will all receive £50 each, plus letter and certificate. The WJEC Student of the Year, who will be the student achieving the highest marks in 2 or more WJEC subjects, will receive £250, plus letter and certificate. These winners will be announced on 28th of January 2010.
