GCSE Results - Encouraging take up of the sciences

Summer 2010 GCSE results for Wales were issued today (Tuesday 24 August). The number of entries for GCSE full courses was 295,934, down by 1.7% from the 2009 figure of 301,047, which is consistent with a fall in the number of 16 year-old pupils in Wales. [more]
A Level results – students' success in new specifications

WJEC Chief Executive Gareth Pierce today congratulated students on their performance at A and AS level and in the Welsh Baccalaureate. This is the first year in which candidates have studied new A Level specifications for most subjects, designed to stretch and challenge the ablest students, with the introduction of the A* grade to mark exceptional achievement. WJEC GCSE Science Specifications

WJEC learned yesterday from Ofqual, the examinations regulator, that our draft specifications for the GCSE Sciences, for teaching from September 2011, had not yet been accredited. All awarding organisations are in a similar position; we have been advised by Ofqual that there are several issues to address before the draft specifications can be re-submitted for accreditation. 2011 Examinations / Results Timetable

The Joint Council for Qualifications is now completing a review of the timetable arrangements for 2011. As a result of this review, the GCE and GCSE examinations will now be starting on May 16th 2011, with the results being published on August 18th 2011 (GCE) & August 25th 2011 (GCSE). [more]
