Mathematics GCSE (9-1) - Update
Following Ofqual's review of the new GCSE in mathematics, WJEC is delighted to announce that the revised sample assessment materials for our WJEC Eduqas GCSE (9-1) mathematics have now been fully accredited by Ofqual.
John Williams, Subject Officer stated: "In line with Ofqual's request, we have simplified some of the questions in our GCSE Mathematics sample assessment papers to make them more accessible to more students. We will be sharing these updated assessment materials and new digital resources with Maths teachers across England via our website and at our forthcoming GCSE Mathematics training days. At those events, we shall also explore how the findings of Ofqual's research can inform teaching and learning."
Gareth Pierce, Chief Executive added: "A new emphasis on problem solving is a key feature of the reform of GCSE Mathematics qualifications for England. We are delighted that the quality of our approach was recognised in the published conclusions of Ofqual's comparative research exercise in May. Our GCSE mathematics team has been thoroughly committed to ensuring that the questions in our 2017 exams will have the required emphasis on the various strands of problem solving as required by Ofqual. With a two-paper structure to our assessments, a clear distinction between the calculator-permitted and non-calculator work, a high quality approach to assessing problem solving, and direct access to our subject specialists, we are preparing for increased interest from centres in England."
